Preliminary design for an improved 4 hour fire rated diesel storage tank. A company I once worked for manufactured 4 hour fire rated tanks designed by another engineer and I that were a steel tank placed in a concrete pipe and concrete poured into the space to give 165mm concrete all around tank to give 4 hour fire rating. Tanks were often installed in basements of buildings to supply fuel for boilers and as the are quite heavy were not easy to put in place. My improvement was to have an outer steel skin and fill with lightweight foamed concrete which is easy to pump into tank, this could even been done with tank in place. As there was not much interest in this idea and I became ill and had to leave this company was never taken further. This preliminary version has much thicker concrete than is probably required as a quick check, depending on mix of concrete only requires about 150mm to 135mm thickness to achieve the 4 hour rating
