When you live in Indiana, over time you see in the winter many people struggling to clear their driveways to make sure they are safe with the average snow shovel. The elderly may have trouble keeping from slipping as they shovel and those who have a joint problem may not be able to finish the job because of pain. This process of shoveling the driveway and then even putting down salt after can be a very lengthy process. The average snow shovel is in need of a redesign to help people of all ages and all those who have different abilities. First, two wheels are added to the back of the blade of the snow shovel, one on the left and one on the right. These wheels will help for the shovel to be pushed more easily and have less resistance from the snow at the edge of the blade. Then, attached to the wheels there are hinges that allow the wheels to fold out at the sides of the blade of the shovel. The shovel can be more easily stored this way since the wheels are not sticking out from the back of the shovel. It will be able to fit in spaces that are narrower. The hinges will include locks so the wheels do not fold out while the shovel is in use. Also included with the shovel are two plastic buckets that are also attached on the back of the blade. These buckets will be side by side in between the two wheels and will have holes in the bottom of them. The holes in the bottom will allow salt to come out of the buckets onto the area that you are shoveling. This will allow people to save time since they do not have to go back and salt as well as people will not have to carry a heavy bag of salt while spreading it. Finally, a rod made of PVC pipe would be attached to the back of the pole of the shovel. The rod would be used to keep salt from getting stuck in the buckets. At the end, the rod splits into two ends, one end for each salt bucket. A ring on the pole of the shovel will keep the rod on the shovel but will allow you to maneuver the rod so you can unclump the salt in the buckets.
