This is one of my design entries to the 3DCONNEXION competition. The 3D mouse when introduced really had a very profound impact on CAD users me included. I use Space Pilot Pro.My design criteria is the optimum use of the left hand putting all the necessary keys ergonomically. To execute a command in a CAD application means moving the mouse to the source menu and maybe a sub menu putting the numeric keyboard will reduce measurement hand motion. The wheel switch rotates 10 deg on either side with 2 programmable commands on each side and the depression of the wheel will give a fifth command so all in all there are 25 programmable commands which are quite sufficient for any professional CAD user. The programmable buttons placed ergonomically at the users fingertips will make the 3D mouse indispensable because it will reduce the number of hand movements between the mouse and the keyboard.
