This is a 3D model of a single-cylinder piston engine mechanism. While large commercial aviation relies on jet turbines, internal combustion piston engines are still heavily used in light aircraft, general aviation, and UAVs. I modeled this to study the kinematics of the slider-crank mechanism, specifically the conversion of linear motion into rotational motion. The assembly includes the piston, connecting rod, crankshaft, and a transparent cylinder block with external cooling fins. I also ran a motion analysis on this assembly to simulate the exact engine cycle and verify clearances. Modeled in SolidWorks. I have included the native SolidWorks files as well as a universal STEP AP214 file.
