Alstom Support beam · 模型 281645
Lighter and cheaper structural support for the Alstom Metropolis Metro trains. The design chosen for the new supports, are based on standard structural IPE140 S275JR steel profiles. The design includes a new type of frame interface and a different mounting method. The new design uses a different mounting system, based on “captive transit mounts”, these kind of mounts are widely used in other industries and are considered as a robust and safe way of supporting loads. The mounts also have the effect of lessen the stresses in the support beams, because of their ability to flex. Other profiles and materials has been considered, however – I have not been able to find any other designs that combines lighter weight, sufficient strength and lower cost, as good as the IPE140 S275JR. The original support beam design is said to weigh 282kg/set of five and cost $ 1,800.-, that makes each support weigh 56,4kg at a cost of $ 360.-. The cost savings comes mostly from the fact, that the amount of welding has been reduced by ¾. The new support has a weight of only 32,0kg and a cost of approx. $ 200.-, including new mounts but excluding new frame interfaces. That adds up to 160kg at cost of $ 1,000.-. The cost of the new frame interfaces is unknown to me; I have not been able to get a quote, however it is my firm believe that they are cheaper than the existing frame interfaces, because of their simpler profile.
