ARMS - Advanced Restraint and Mobility System · 模型 222054
Outward Technologies envisions a semi-flexible passive restraint and mobility system to aid astronauts while working or moving around a habitat in multiple gravity environments. This Advanced Restraint and Mobility System (ARMS) consists of a rail system that can be mounted to any ceiling, floor, or wall to guide a four-wheeled cart around the habitat. A passive arm with three ball joints is attached to the cart and at the opposite end to a belt worn by the astronaut. The arm is equipped with four levers that can be used to independently lock each of the arm’s joints, as well as the rail cart. In low gravity environments, the astronaut can traverse the habitat by locking the joints in a position suitable for walking and begin to walk under their own power. The semi-flexible arm will allow the astronaut to walk normally, even in microgravity, by providing resistance to the perpendicular reaction forces without being so rigid as to stifle vertical motion completely, which would otherwise force the astronaut to adopt an altered gait. Once the astronaut has reached their intended destination, they can use any or all of the locking levers to secure themselves in place. At any time, the astronaut can use the quick-release system to free their belt from the arm.
