Here is my 6th (possibly final) entry for the Multi-Function Reader Design challenge by Blackboard Transact. https://grabcad.com/challenges/the-multi-function-reader-design-challenge. Here's my most epic design; it would make an excellent product! Along the way in creating this concept, I kept features & geometry in line for injection molding process and simple construction. The center tube-shape is the main housing with a cap placed on each side. The end caps have seven fasteners that bind them to the main housing to make a single rigid body. For security, the main housing has 3 mounting holes and caps each have one for a five-point surface mounting. The drawer feature is a container for proprietary Blackboard devices, 3rd party products, or general storage. The drawer has rails built into the design allowing it to extend out without mishap, and a retainer tab so the drawer does not push through the unit. This design also features a NFC contactless credential reader, credit card reader, forward facing camera, motion sensor, circuit board hardware area, design space for a lithium-ion battery, SD Card reader, RJ45, and USB ports. Other options can be made available such as printer, braille pad, etc :) Solidworks editable files are available; a STEP file too.
