Tikves' Iconic Wine, T'ga Za Jug T'ga za Jug, one of the most popular wines in the Balkans, is enjoyed for its ruby red colour, distinctive aromas and its nostalgic poetic roots. A semi-dry wine made from the Republic of Macedonia's Vranec grape - related to the primitive/zinfandel varietal but deeper in colour and producing wines richer in flavour. Slight sweetness is balanced by a pleasant bitterness on the palate and finish. Notes of Thai red basil, Rooibos tea, black olive, sandalwood, plum and blackberry. Nicely integrated flavours here. Juicy and affable. Good length. T'ga Za Jug, which translates to "Longing For The South" , is named after a historically significant poem by Konstantin Miladinov, considered to be the founder of modern Macedonian poetry. While studying in Russia, Miladinov penned the poem after becoming nostalgic for the warm sunshine and culture of his Macedonian homeland. Today, many people hold the poem close to their hearts. Since 1885, Tikves Winery has been crafting and aging premium Macedonian wines. With a history to be proud of, it is one of the most recognized wine brands in the region and is emerging on the global scene as a leading innovator. In 2008, Tikves was ranked among the world's top 30 innovative wine brands at The Wine Innovation Forum in Paris, France.
