This product is designed to protect baseball catchers heads. Even with the mask, catchers still undergo many brain injuries, some career ending. There are other protective masks out there, but the youth catchers are unable to use it due to regulations on mask types. The product will incorporate a three part design built with polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is a great material for this design because it is great at being impact resistant. The prototype of this design will be made of polycarbonate throughout to follow the parameters, but the final product will consist of 3 layers. Polycarbonate, then a shock absorbing material, then another layer of polycarbonate. Instead of designing a whole new mask, this will be added to their own mask. The design will be easily taken off or put back on for ease of use. The product will be attached to the top of the mask where the steel cage ends. Most brain injuries happen when the baseball impacts the top of the mask, above the cage. Sometimes resulting in a concussion or other brain injuries. The product will be printed with FDM printing.
