A diploma project of an X-axis ball screw linear feed drive for a 5-axis CNC machining center. The unit was developed as part of a CHIRON FZ12 FX-based flexible manufacturing module for machining medium-sized housing parts. The drive provides precise movement of the spindle slide along the X axis and is based on a ball screw, profiled linear guideways, servo motor, bearing supports, coupling and linear encoder feedback. The design was checked for motor selection, vibration stability, guideway life and thermal behavior of the ball screw system. Main specifications: 580 mm travel, 10 mm ball screw lead, Siemens SIMOTICS servo motor and Heidenhain LC483 linear encoder.
