For Extreme Redesign, I made a new style of coin sorter. It has numerous features that improve it’s usability. For one, there is no crank and thus no possibilities of jamming which makes it much more efficient than other devices that are used to sort coins. Instead of manual power it is powered by gravity. When you put a coin at the top, it rolls down and into the hole that has a slightly bigger size than the coin. The small lip on the top of the sorter ensures that coins will not fall off the sides when intended for sorting. Once the coin falls into the hole it joins the stack of coins at the base. The tabs at the back are there so removing coins is easy. The holes at the base are the perfect size so that only one coin pops out of the machine at a time. It’s simple shape makes it easily manufacturable by 3D printing without much support removal. By having separate components rather than 3D printing the whole thing at once, it is even easier to clean up after printing. Each part is also easily assemblable into the completed structure.
