To make this assembly, I first created a second set of pieces (I simply changed the color of the set 1 pieces). Then, I made a coincident mate with the pieces to the board. Next, I made two distance mates with the sides of the squares, to center the piece. Finally, I aligned the right plane of the pieces with the right plane of the assembly/chess board.
