Da Vinci Giant crossbow · 模型 258121
Da Vinci designed his giant crossbow not mainly for function but to strike fear into the hearts of the enemy when seeing it. It is a really awsome mechanism and design and is my choice for his design to re-create and print. It just looks awsome and is fun to print and have a scale crossbow you can actually fire. Perfect for those quite days in the office. The link to the design: http://www.da-vinci-inventions.com/giant-crossbow.aspx The design is easily printable by using the FDM method and ABBS as a material. Although something with higher yield strentgh should work better fro the gears to take some force. The reason for this method is that it is cheap and easy to use and also fast and advances in its technology allows you to print with plastics that have a good yield strength meaning the device can actually work. Although it should be printed on a printer that can achieve high accuracy without warping and also can print reasonably big. The model is printed as seprate parts in the small amount of support structures can easily be broken away and your device assembly can be done easily. After the first print some issues came up. So for version 2 the tolerancing was improved to make parts fit more easily and allow thread to work better. This reduced post processing to make parts fit more easily and quickly. also allowed to mechanism to function better. The driving gear was replaced with a modern spur gear to improve functionality and also it is easier to print a working and stronger spur gear with the FDM method. Overall V2 is improved and better for FDM printing. The tolerance on the printer used was 0.09mm thus tolerance had to be loose to allow parts to fit and work properly. The design was adjusted accordingly and the infill was set to full for printing solid parts for better strength. To make the crossbow work included is also some cannonball ammo you can print ot fire. The bow works with a rubber band. This is due to the fact that the plastic used in most applications of FDM printing might stru deal with the forces of actually deforming the bow. Thus the rubber band allows it to fire. The rubber band is threaded through the skip as seen in the image and hooked onto the two latches just in front of the trigger. pushing down on the trigger fires the bow. This can be seen in an uploaded video and also the worm gear mechanism working can be seen in another uploaded video.
