So I had an Ikea bed, I moved it literally disintegration at some important parts and started to bow in the middle, which sometimes made the slats collapse.. a little while later i moved again ( not a student anymore) the bed was a gonna, maybe 2 years of service max, I was annoyed at paying 400 euros for a literal piece of cardboard and woodchip that fell apart. Not again. and I needed a bed and had some wood plywood in my storage. So i knocked this up in around a 30 minutes in cad, bought some fittings and it was done, it works great and in theory i can take it to pieces again if i need to move. as its made of 22mm construction solid plywood. if i remember, it fits on one sheet of wood, including 2mm allocated for saw cut thickness losses. Look for the layout sketch to see it all. The center bar is metal and was from my ikea bed. the rest is just wood screw and glue. It took me an hour to cut with a circular saw and a straight edge, glue, clamp and put some screws in. Then it was done. Getting the carriage bolt holes in and aligned with the barrel holes was the hardest bit, i would recommend a drill jig to make it as easy as possible you could 3d print one easily to help get the holes perpendicular at the beginning and once your going, its easy to keep it going straight. (Left and Right, Front and back are identical to each other) Dont forget clamps for glueing and screwing if you knock in some screws on both sides to parts you dont have to wait even. i think i used 20-30 screws for each piece which is doubled up, some going from both sides except the external panel i just went from the internal side out that way to make the outside a bit nicer in its basic form its not too too pretty but it works better than an Ikea. Veneer and a router with a rounding bit or learning a bit of upholstery (easier than it sounds) and you can make it pretty lol. Have fun and F*** Ikea!.
