Because of the price of tools in today's world, this is a really good project to use materials that are lying around in the workshop for an apprentice to work on, as well as being a useful addition to the toolbox to have. Black oxide all the mild steel parts, match the dovetail to your specific DTI, and design the handles however you see fit.
