This is a 3D model of a dual 18650 battery holder for SMD PCB mounting, manufactured by Blossom Electronics. The measurements were taken based on the datasheet and an existing battery holder I own. The design is suitable for common PCB design software such as Altium Designer and Proteus. The original contacts have low current carrying capacity and relatively high internal resistance. To improve performance, I soldered a 10 mm wide and 0.2 mm thick nickel-plated steel strip onto the contacts. Using pure nickel or nickel-plated copper would provide even better results. The strip that contacts the positive terminal should be cut to a diameter of 8 mm, as shown in the 3D model. This was done carefully to avoid damaging the outer nickel plating. This modification increases current capacity and reduces contact resistance. To briefly explain the method: after cutting the strip to 39 mm, I bent it from the pad area toward the battery contact point. Once shaped, I pre-soldered both the contact and the part of the strip that touches it, then cleaned off excess solder. After repositioning the strip, I applied aluminum tape over the section that contacts the battery. I then heated the tape using a soldering iron while applying a small amount of solder for better heat transfer. Gentle pressure was applied using a wooden toothpick. After the solder melted, I removed the iron while maintaining pressure until it solidified. Finally, I removed the tape and cleaned any adhesive residue using a suitable solvent and manual cleaning.
