I obtained this shape from a regular triangular bipyramid which I converted to a frame of pipes (each edge was made into a hollow cylinder and all of the pipes seam together in joints situated where the vertices of the bipyramid had been located). After obtaining the triangular bipyramid pipe frame, I rotated a copy of it 144° around its longitudinal median axis and intersected the copy with the original. I then took the shape I'd obtained this way and rotated a copy of it 180 degrees around the same axis as well and then merged the new shape with its rotated copy. Finally, I filleted the edges of this final compound shape.
