Earth and atmosphere · 模型 134953
Those who have been working with CAD for years acquire the ability to judge by eye the size of the objects they manipulate on the screen. I propose a reflection on the size of the atmosphere compared to the sphere of the Earth. In reality the Earth is not a perfect sphere, the equatorial radius is about 6378 km, while the polar radius is 6357 km, it is therefore a geoid flattened at the poles. For simplicity I have however drawn a semi-sphere with a radius of 6378 mm (scale 1:1000000). I have therefore added the thicknesses 3 mm corresponding to the altitude of the atmosphere within which the majority of the world's population lives. For comparison I have added the altitude of 8000 m and at 12 o'clock, the triangle of Mount Everest 8849 m high. To see it you will have to repeatedly zoom in and zoom in. It is therefore impressive how thin the livable air layer available for life on Earth is. In that very thin film there is everything, humans, animals, insects and plants for about 3.5 billion years, and since the industrial revolution also the machines built by man that contribute to transforming this very thin peel.
