Effortless Pen Holding System · 模型 199431
Effortless Pen Holding System Our ergonomic pen holder was designed for people with decreased finger dexterity; it can be used in cases of recovering stroke patients, where mobility and strength need to be re-learned, due to the loss of nervous tissue; or in other situations where the user may have reduced control over their fingers and thumb. The user’s thumb and index finger are held by the rubber-like cups on either side, in a correct writing position, and are held fast without any extra effort from the user. A pen or pencil can be inserted into the system, and is secured in the central column. The holding system is flexible enough to let the users hand and fingers move if mobility is restored, and can act as a transitionary aid as well. Another application could be in the field of prosthesis. The pen holder can be clipped to the prosthetic, and gives the user more natural control when writing, as they don’t have to think about the pen’s stability in the prosthetic. Since the product will be 3D printed, we can take advantage of its ‘job’ style of production, and create a custom product on a user to user basis. 3D scanning capabilities make it possible to scan the target user’s hand, and from that, sculpt a custom fit sleeve to be printed. The design is small enough to be printable on virtually any sized print bed, however due to the material choice, more specialised equipment may be required. The material chosen for the finger cups is flexible photopolymer, for example, Tango Plus FLX930. This was chosen because of the softness and flexibility required in the grip, to maximise comfort and usability. The for the outer ring will be printed in ABS, as it’s strong and durable. Since the different materials can be printed in different sessions, a multi-material printer is not required. The ABS support ring can be printed on most FDM style printers. Due to the rubber-like material chosen for the grips, we recommend PolyJet systems be used to print them.
