This model presents a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation of an exhaust manifold, focusing on the flow characteristics of exhaust gases from multiple inlets into a single outlet collector. The simulation was conducted under steady-state conditions using a 3D internal flow domain extracted from the manifold geometry. Boundary conditions were defined with multiple velocity or mass flow inlets corresponding to each cylinder port, while a pressure outlet condition was applied at the collector exit. The working fluid is assumed to be compressible gas (air approximation), with properties defined under standard operating conditions. Wall boundaries were treated as no-slip conditions, capturing viscous effects along the manifold surface. A turbulence model such as the k-ε (k-epsilon) or k-ω SST (Shear Stress Transport) model was applied to accurately predict turbulence intensity, flow separation, and recirculation phenomena within the merging sections. The mesh was refined in critical regions, particularly near the junctions and bends, to capture high gradients in velocity and pressure. The simulation results show velocity streamlines and contours, where flow acceleration occurs as streams from each branch converge into the collector. High-velocity regions (red/orange) are observed near the merging zone due to flow interaction and reduced cross-sectional area, while lower velocities (green) are present at the inlet regions. Turbulent mixing, secondary flow structures, and minor recirculation zones are evident near sharp bends and intersection points, contributing to pressure losses. This CFD analysis provides insight into backpressure distribution, flow uniformity, and energy losses, which are critical parameters in exhaust system design. The model can be used to evaluate and optimize manifold geometry for improved engine performance, reduced flow resistance, and enhanced thermal and fluid efficiency.
