The FORD-40 is a pressurized rotary damper with 40 degrees of rotation hence the name. The settings can't be changed on the fly, you need to disassemble the damper to change them. However, the F1 teams who have used that design weren't bothered since they had multiple dampers ready. It weigh just over a kilogram. This can be explain by differents things, like it's titanium construction. The fact that it acts like a rocker for the suspension mitigates the weight penalty thus helping build a more compact suspension system by suppressing multiple components. For comparison the FORTD-30 weighs 510 grams ready to mount, the settings can be changed without disassembling and it can accommodate different types of suspension concept.
