The most basic definition of a gearbox is that it is a contained gear train, or a mechanical unit or component consisting of a series of integrated gears within a housing. Why gearbox is used? The purpose of the transmission is to provide high torque at the time of starting, hill climbing, accelerating, and pulling a load. When a vehicle is starting from rest, hill climbing, accelerating, and meeting other resistance, high torque is required at the driving wheels.
