With elliptical scoops, this design collects a relatively small amount of regolith with each individual pass, but is able to maximize material retention with a series of internal tubes. Additionally, the six-sectioned design and duel scoops per section, further increases the design’s ability to collect material. As the barrel rotates, only one scoop comes into contact with the ground at a time, but once this scoop collects some regolith, the next scoop begins to interact with the ground. Scaled 3D-printed models of the this final design, and many other possible designs, where created and field tested to perfect the design.
