Low carbon is what we have been calling on during these years in order to deal with the worldwide climate change issues. In the urban area, citizens are contributing more and more to change their societies into much more environmentally-friendly ones. However, in the remote rural areas, people are not paying much attention to the critical climate issues. So I started to focus on the improvements of rural buildings and try to transform them into both energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly buildings. I came up with an idea to reconstruct a Green Goat House which is used for education and animals housing. The windows on the roof and walls are used to let the sun light in so that we can save energy during the daytime. Solar panels are designed to be put on the roofs to collect the solar power to support daily electric uses. At the bottom, I designed a feces collector so that we do not need to input additional human resource to collect the excrements in the house. After we collect the feces, we have two choices to deal with them. First we can choose to transport them into the biodigester by opening the tilted board to let the feces slide off the walls onto the digester. In this way, we can produce biogas such as methane so that we can use the waste to generate energy. Second, if the bidegester is full, we can collect the additional feces by opening the vertical board. The feces can be further used as fertilizers. In addition, the product except the gas in the digester tank can also be used as fertilizers. Then we can achieve that the waste will be produced as little as possible. In order to save energy for ventilation, I designed two ventilation outlets. One is above the roof. The other one is down the extended eaves. Besides, the windows on the walls could be also open to let the fresh air in. Inside the house, I divided the space into five separate areas. The centered one is used as teaching area. Teachers and students could gather in this area to have a close look about the goats’ life. Next to the teaching area, I put a feeding area. The fodder could be placed into the trough. The peripheral areas are set for housing the goats. The logo on the front wall, which looks like a goat head, is coming from ancient Chinese character which means goat. The house is designed to be octagon to have good aesthetical views.
