This is an L-shaped bracket that holds a laser senor and also has slots for magnets that hold the bracket in place over the metallic surface there by arresting any movement of the sensor and thus securing it in one place. This model of bracket is useful in situations where you need to secure something on a flat surface while also avoid obstruction to some other component on top of it. In this scenario(a laser label finishing machine), there is a laser scan head directly above where the sensor is. To avoid obstruction to laser while also achieving the functionality of sensing registration marks(which happen to be on one edge and directly below the laser scan head) this bracket was designed. Using magnets to hold the bracket gives the flexibility to reuse it where ever position over a metal surface.
