Hydrofoil with 1 inch circular mount · 模型 13768
This hydrofoil is small in dimension, it fits in a regular 3d printer. The section is a high lift low Reynolds S1223 airfoil. At 5 degrees angle of attack and a speed of 2m/s it can lift over 80Kg and at around 12 degrees it can lift over 130Kg. The circular tube mount adds drag but it is a very simple solution for a strut. Any pvc pipe of 1 inch should fit. The pipe will have to be re-enforced with some composite. FLUID DYNAMICS ANALYSIS ---------------------------------------- The fluid dynamic simulation was done in LS-DYNA. Water was used as a fluid with a velocity of 2m/s. The results show the flow nicely attached to the airfoils. The wingtip vortices do not interfere with the rear stabilizer. The circular mount produces detached flow that increase drag and has a small interference with the rear stabilizer. STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS --------------------------------- The structural analysis was done assuming a single layer of composite material (fiber glass) model as an isotropic material (I will do the orthotropic analysis next). The thickness of the layer is 2mm. The loads used in the analysis come from the fluid dynamic analysis. The effective stress shows that the structure is well bellow the yield stresses. It also shows in red the hot spots which could give an indication of where the re-enforce the model. The images show a displacement scaled by 100.
