Original project made with Autodesk Inventor 2014 as a Dynamic Simulation. The action is due to an imposed motion applied to the „Wheel - In” (10 rot/min = 60 deg/s) in both senses. The simulation does not include any friction or collision restitution. The „Wheel - In” rotates and the two pins collide with the side walls of the „Wheel - Out”. This is the source of the „Wheel - Out” rotation. Remarkable is that the „Wheel - Out” rotates 180° for only 90° rotation of the „Wheel - In”. The small clearance between the pins and the „Wheel - Out” channels, on one hand, and the „Wheel - Out” and the wall of the „Wheel - In”, on the other hand, permit us to see which sides of the parts collide during the movement. If you have good eyes then you can see in the animation the little displacements of the mobile parts within their respective clearances. The mentioned displacements are obvious also if you look at the velocity graph in the „Output Grapher.jpg” picture. Some extra details are necessary. The channel geometry in the „Wheel - Out” is pretty difficult to be defined because there are moments when both pins are in contact with the „Wheel - Out”. The geometry presented here is a rough solution - because of the limited reasonable time I spent on this project. Another important detail is connected with the Inventor software. The combination „Contact Set” / „Activate Contact Solver” works perfectly in the manual movement of the parts, but it is not taken into consideration when you try to create an animation with Inventor Studio - I did not know this... This is why I used Dynamic Simulation with data transfer to Inventor Studio by using the „Publish to Studio” tool. If you use Inventor, you have to download all the files in a single directory, then open the .iam file with Inventor 2014, 2015..., enter Environments/Dynamic Simulation, and click on the Play button. Instead of 6500 images, you can apply 1300 images if you have to wait too much for the simulation (see the Output Grapher.jpg picture). Enjoy!
