This is a model of an Isosceles Triangle Folded Dipole Antenna that was modeled after an article in the Jan/Feb 2023 issue of QEX magazine by the ARRL. It is authored and designed by W4RQ as an omni-directional horizontally polarized loop design for the amateur radio 2 meter band (~ 144 thru 148 MHz). The design is based upon an aluminum yard stick ruler that is bent into an isosceles triangle with a parallel gap at the end for capacitive reactance tuning of the antenna to your preferred center frequency of operation. There are nylon fasteners at the gap as well as retaining the ruler to a saddle block pipe clamp manufactured by Stauff. You may choose to use any pipe diameter you want; i have chosen 1.5" (38mm) diameter for this model. The author mentioned that he tired aluminum yard stick rulers from Harbor Freight and found that they fracture. Therefore DO NOT USE HARBOR FREIGHT ALUMINUM YARDSTICKS FOR THIS DESIGN. The author has recommended ACE HARDWARE as the place to buy the yard stick as he has had good results with that grade of aluminum. - - Also any aluminum sheet metal would suffice greater than 2mm in thickness (0.080") as long as the bend angles will not fracture the aluminum. It is recommended to spray coat the antenna with a clear acrylic to prevent corrosion and seal the copper wire and solder joints (not shown). I have used an N-type connector as i have shown in many cases the UHF style of coaxial connectors have poor contacts and can create transmission line losses thru mismatches. I would recommend only the N-Type connectors over any UHF-style connector. Not shown in the design is a cap for the PVC pipe at the top as well as a small hole to allow the coaxial cable to feed thru the PVC mast. NOTE: Any metal (e.g. aluminum, copper, or cast iron pipe) mast will distort the EM field as well as de-tune the antenna, therefore only plastic masts (e.g acrylic, PVC, nylon, fiberglass, bamboo, wood) are recommended with 1 wavelength (8 meters) of the antenna.
