Leonardo Da Vinci's genius can be summed up in the hundreds of modern day mechanisms that he pioneered over 5 centuries ago, truly before their time. In this spirit of modern vs old I recreated the Da Vinci drill and chuck mechanism with the look and feel of the original design but with a completely modernized angled chuck mechanism hidden beneath the facade. Every single part was meticulously designed with 3D printing in mind and this shows once you setup the part in the printing software and find no major support structures. In fact the only support that is required is for clip holes, which were designed to be easily removed. The whole system snaps together with clips (all surfaces were given tolerance for printing oversizing) and can be built in 5 minutes straight off the print bed without the need for cutting, gluing, difficult material removal or using metal bearings and fasteners. See for yourself! The pieces are designed to be used in any direction, and this makes it easy to build. See the beams, outer parts of the chuck, the bit holder etc. This design consideration along with no support materials means this is as close to an out of the box kit you can get.
