Leviathan - An Underwater Drone · 模型 205297
Leviathan is a one of a kind underwater drone designed for commercial use. The commercial use of air drones has skyrocketed in the last few years - from the DJI Phantom to GoPro Karma Quadcopter. However, nowadays there is little room for further development or improvement, and not many have invested time into developing an underwater drone – potentially the next big product in the market. Leviathan is a small drone with a camera mount to enable the user to use their own GoPro or other camera, making the cost of production much cheaper. The front of the drone has a removable camera housing made of a clear material. It can easily be taken out and when threaded in, it will protect the inside of the drone from water. This would also allow the access to the battery compartment of the drone behind the camera mount. The drone has four thrusters, each of which pivot 90 degrees to allow for precise control. This configuration permits the drone to move forward, up, down, at an angle, or parallel to the ground. A rendering of two different configurations is shown above, multiple configurations in between are also possible. The drone will be equipped with several sensors such as a depth sensor, a gyro/accelerometer IMU and a temperature sensor for safety purposes. It is also designed with an inflatable flotation device on the back. The drone would be remote controlled, but with it being underwater there is a possibility that the user loses connection with the drone. In such situation, the CO2 powered flotation device would activate and bring the drone safely to the surface of the water to be collected. What market would there be for an underwater drone? Primarily it would be marketed towards recreational purposes, much like quadcopters. It could, however, also be used for high quality filming below the water as a GoPro could be attached to a gimbal. Another market area for such a drone consists of mariners, as they are often required to see what is beneath the water in front of their vessel and do so quickly, making Leviathan perfect for the job. A prototype model of this could be printed through ABSplus for the body and ABSi for the camera housing using FDM technology. The prototype in the image was printed using ABS and an uPrint 3D printer. School Name: Liverpool High School Instructor Name: David Chartrand
