This is my entry for the NASA lunar sampling challenge. Please take a look at the 2 pdf files if you want an accurate description of the system and how it works. The double scoop is attached to an articulated arm not dissimilar to what NASA alreay use on Opportunity rover on Mars. The sampling operation is directed entirely by ground control. The apparatus take a sample of soil ,filter it according to specifications (pebbles between 10 and 20 mm and pebbles and soil with a diameter less than 10 mm) and put it in the storage container in layers as per spec. On the side of the scoops there are two openings that function both as a discharge port and as a visual aid for ground control to check the pebbles one by one and accept or discard them. The filtered sample is discharged on the ground if not satisfactory or put in the storage container otherwise, the storage container is located inside the lunar lander. The system can be used to dig small trenches up to 10 cm below ground level to access the lower layers of the lunar soil.
