A surprising curiosity I never thought that it would take so much time to design and manufacture such a simple part. Next time I will also calculate the time of my more complex projects just out of curiosity :) The complete process of the driver tool project and the necessary time commitment: A total of 2 pcs of custom made driver tools of 170 mm arm length and 1 pc of 250 mm arm length will be manufactured. These sizes are unique and cannot be used elsewhere. (Establishment of custom machine development for all components is not economically feasible) Purpose: An essential component of a production equipment in case of power outage, this component is used to return the equipment to its original position. Issue related inquiry: 1 hour Measurement and modeling of components: 3 hours Preparation of manufacturing drawings and workshop drawings: 2 hours Coordination and correction of drawings and models: 1 hour Setting printing parameters and test prints: 2 hours Handover of drawings for manufacturing and coordination: 5 hours Task breakdown and process for internal production: 6 hours Design and negotiations for external production: several days Welding, assembly and testing of components: 3-5 hours Prototype testing and documentation revision: 4-5 hours Repeat process for internal production, additional 6 hours Preparation of production documentation and provision of access: 2 hours Total time commitment required: 28-33 hours
