My one year old daughter loves Mater's Tall Tales, and one them has Mater doing a Drift Race in Tokyo. This is what I thought of when I saw the Crazy Cart Design Challenge. I figured a battery powered, magnetically mounted LED light would be perfect for the ground effects lighting. I designed the one piece case to hold the batteries and circuit board, and still be injection moldable. The circuit board has a switch to turn it on and a button to select the color(s). My original plan was to only do that much, but seeing some of the other entries encouraged me to keep going and seek more inspiration from Tokyo Mater. Next up was lowering the body of the Crazy Cart. In the front I scaled down the powertrain, and shortened up the foot and foot mount. I shrunk the hole for the front wheel to make it look better. The back was a little more challenging, until I decided to just put the drift bar over the bottom tray. Had to move things out and over to cover the wheels, but it ended up with a lot of empty space on the back. I first thought of using the extra space in back to put in some extra batteries, but thankfully I noticed Mater's massive spoiler, and that fit the theme so much better. The wing gave me a great spot to put the logo for Solid Edge. The last change I made was making the flag sweep back. I tried for two hours to get the mount in the seat to change, but ended up just spending two minutes to put a bend in flag pole. Next up will be the animation. I hope two weeks will be enough time to channel what's in my mind into Keyshot. Got a test animation done using linear and rotary motors. All the Solid Edge files I used to make it have been uploaded in the Animation folder for anyone to reference. Video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFSnLJaE-vU Got a new animation up for the LED light. I used an explode animation in reverse to load the batteries in. I couldn't animate the lights turning on and changing color because KeyShot doesn't seem to recognize that from Solid Edge. Video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkPpaBIJxnc I'll have to animate the colors separately and splice them together. Animation of attaching lights to the underside. http://youtu.be/28K0nE48tNQ I recorded a video of how and why I made the bottom tray longer, available here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDkdWq7vKVU Test animation of the wheels rolling. http://youtu.be/C1w7WUeLGaE Final video is up! http://youtu.be/HQeSdK22sxY ...
