15-AUG: Added photos and video of Drop #2...FAILED (Sorry, no video link so you need to download the MP4). Note: Drop #1 fell sideways so I tried again. The cumulative damage is evident as the top shears off. ------------------------------ 12-AUG: Printed and getting ready to drop... (Note: The rocket was designed to be printed as one piece, but for initial testing I printed the top and bottom separately and taped them together). ------------------------------ Concept where the impact is absorbed by a collapsible cone-shaped bellows. Not sure if I'll be able to prototype this on a basic FDM printer (PrintrBot), but it will be fun to try. I'll be using the same sling design from my previous "Eggs-2 Skycycle Rocket" entry to cradle the egg.
