NASA Challenge Entry 2 - Tommy Mueller · 模型 256737
Here’s my second entry for the NASA Challenge: Human-Rated Spacecraft 3D Printing Process Animation and that challenge can be found here: https://grabcad.com/challenges/nasa-challenge-human-rated-spacecraft-3d-printing-process-animation This concept would have a concentric spiral built into the structure of the heat shield to accommodate the ablative material during its application. The concentrical spiral design works similarly like how a cement mixer works, or a cement truck, where the flow is controlled by the paddle direction, centrifugal force, inertia, and the constant pull of gravity. Another key design element is that the multi-axis robotic arms are attached to the base frame, which pivots up and down depending on the operation. Consequently, this design positions the robotic arms to be locked to the origin of the printed part keeping those numbers clean in the parts’ world space during fabrication. For the robotic arm tools, there is the print nozzle, milling head, thermal hose, and to accompany the ablative material process, the robot has a sculpting tool. Similar to the setup used in 3d printing concrete, this blade combs over the additive thermal material applied, and ensures it is formed to an exact contour and dimension. All my 3D was created in SolidWorks 2018 and imported into the Unreal Engine using Unreal Studio. Special thanks to NASA for bringing the challenge to GrabCAD. Good luck everybody!
