Hello, I'm Dani Guillén Expósito and that’s my entry for the Human Rated Spacecraft 3D Printing Process Animation challenge and my first ever upload to GrabCAD. I’m sure I will be uploading some projects from my college years. I’m currently finishing my studies of Industrial Design Engineering on the Vilanova I la Geltrú campus (EPSEVG) of UPC Barcelona. Given the scale of the project, the fact that I found out about the contest just six days before the deadline, and my effort to not infringe copyright by using some standard part from the internet… I had to save up on detail. That means most of the assets are purely cosmetic. But if you find something interesting you’re welcome to grab whatever you find useful. I don’t recommend you to make them a central part of your project but will definitely add some interest and life to your render. I “designed” all the parts so you don’t have to worry about copyright. I also had to “weld” some parts to speed up the process and reduce part count. If you want something that is just a big piece, send me a message and I will happily send it to you. I work on Solid Edge ST 8 but I can export it to many formats. I had to cheaply render some of the animations on the internal software but the factory overview it’s been made on KeyShot (also lowering the resolution and texture quality to keep render times from taking days). And now something about my concept. I mapped out a straight line of production and assembly based on a module for ease of planning. The big parts are guided by a rail on the floor and overhanging robots work on them. The round form of this spacecraft parts makes this option ideal so the robot arm can work all the perimeter without interfering with ground level machinery. You can see the thermal protection fluid reservoir in Stage 1, next to the wall, and the roll of metal for 3d printing on Stage 2. Both are connected to the robots by pipe (in orange for material and blue for power and sensors) with floor level intake so they can be replaced quickly without having to access the robot. I think that this kind of little robots have a lot of potential, they can carry tool change carrousels so the robot has always a sharp bit or the ideal extruder head. They can also move empty rolls and reservoir lowering the demand for human operated pallet carrier (as long as those are on the robot operating load). I used them to blow to cool the metalic part, and reversing the motor they make for a useful va...
