LAST UPDATE 22.8.2018. 21:36 Zagreb time Added three screenshots of the models in CATIA (the program they were made in) UPDATE 9.8.2018. 23:12 Zagreb time ‣‣‣In my model I want to show how important it is to speed up the process with very few changes to the existing arms that NASA already has which is of great importance in lowering the cost and time of next Orion mission ‣‣‣I included everything that was in the task: ‣2 robot arms ‣Process of covering the heat shield ‣Pressure vessel 3D printint using Laser Metal Deposition ‣Final machining of 3D printed parts using the milling adapter for robot hand ‣‣‣My design shows how the whole pressure vessel could be printed in one go instead of welding pieces together. Using Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) process you could make the whole structure in a more interesting way by redesigning it to be more organic and thus getting rid of extra weight. In other words printing only the needed calculated structure without excess material which does nothing but gives a lot of mass to the already heavy structure. ‣‣‣After both robot arms have printed the structure simultaneously on a rotating adjustable platform, their print heads are going to be exchanged with milling tools which will finish the surface which requires strict tolerances. Then comes the hole boring process in which already printed hole will be machined on exact measure. ‣‣‣Scanning could be added to the manufacturing process to verify the dimensions and tolerances. ‣‣‣If you would reconstruct the structure to be more organic and/or complex, the manufacturing process would just adapt to the design without need for different tools and machines. ‣‣‣Unfortunately I couldn`t make a lot of animations inside the factory itself because my computer was having a hard time, and CATIA crashed thousand times and thus deleted a lot of my work.I will have to get a better PC, but for now I managed to make something out of it, and I hope I helped NASA in some way https://youtu.be/svpRuySu7Pg Thanks for bringing this challenge Inside is very important Word document which explains why I did some things the way I did so be sure to read it! :)
