This nestbox has an upside-down "L" shape which purpose is that this design is help to keep away predators from the chicken. The entertrance has a little metal / hard plastic ring because woodpeckers like to peck it, and destroy the hole. By the way the hole have to be 34 mm, because it is enough for the birds but this thight dimension also helps too keep away the other (undesired) animals. There are ventillation holes on the sides and the bottom, don't forget to drill them. The board under the entertrance is removable for the cleaning if it is unscrewed. (The box is need to be cleaned after the breeding season once in a year.) If you want to make it more durable cover the roof with shingle or sheet metal. The board's thickness have to be at least 20 mm. The install height is 2-4 m. This nest box is suitable for these birds (in central Europe): great tit nuthatch sparrow wryneck flycatchers
