Problem: To create a cost-effective wearable navigation device to improve the everyday interactions of the visually impaired. Findings: Visually impaired people generally use walking sticks to guide themselves, and they tap the stick in front, back, left, and right before taking each step. The younger generation has a "blind stigma", or they don't want to show to the rest of the world that they are visually impaired. The community requires a cost-effective solution. Solution: A plug-and-play obstacle avoidance device - Netrikkan. The figure shows a camera attached to a joystick to constantly move "Up, Down, Left & Right" in order to mimic the actions of a walking stick in usage, to provide precise obstacle data in a 180-degree surrounding environment. I've attached all the CAD files for the project, and it is my sincerest request to anyone who is interested to take this project up and make it a reality.
