I propose to wrap the tank (Moon Habitat) with two sleeves containing two part expandable and hard setting (possibly polyurethane with some mesh reinforcement ) foam and mix it after the landing . The device would essentially work as a giant sacrificial tire that only needs to last for less than 200 turns. These tires could be removed and perhaps utilized for something else like the structural part of an underground emergency shelter. Otherwise if foam is not an option, some other form of collapsible assembly made out of metal could be attached in similar form and be reused to roll other modules. I personally think foam would be the perfect solution (assuming it works out in space) for building underground habitats. Obviously some ground preparation before rolling will be required like compacting the soil (idk what the moon dirt is called) and removing the large boulders that could be a stress points, so some form of jackhammer / rake drone would need to go up first, I don’t think this is avoidable unless there is a plan of sending up there massive caterpillar style track or some huge wheels Caution ! Not a NASA grade math (I'm only a industrial designer ) I’m assuming the 100 tons is earth mass that makes the load around 17000 kg moon weight The two tires OD 8.8m by 2.5m wide, (depending on foam hardness and how soft the ground is) let’s say the assembly sinks in as much as astronaut first step foot did, around 2cm this will create 2.1m2 surface contact area for each tire, totaling to around 0.4kg/cm2 ground pressure (5.7psi for metric challenged) that is about 20% of car ground pressure or 1/3 of M1 Abrams tank. Pressurizing the habitat during transport would prevent the assembly from collapsing on itself The ‘A’ frame driving modules would have a motors with power source that would drive the tank using geared connection with two ø3m gears fixed to tank assembly, additionally the four wheels would have their own motor and braking system to assist the rolling process and would allow autonomous operations like pick up, delivery and return to source on its own, assembly will also require some actuators on each leg
