A model I created to demonstrate to a family member how important dental hygiene is to someone who has dental implants. Peri-Implantitis is a condition when the bone recedes from the dental implant site. This is typically caused by poor hygiene. As the bone recedes each loading cycle (bite) creates more stress due to leverage. As the bone recedes further, the hard cortical bone is lost and only the much more flexible trabecular bone is left. The geometry is saved in the final stage of bone loss. You can go back to the previous stage by editing the cut extrude feature in mandible file and remeshing. The model presents some modeled geometry of the jaw and teeth. Mechanical properties for the two types of bone (cortical and cancelous). Load directed via reference geometry. Can be a useful learning example. Be warned: this is a very simplified model, to do actual diagnosis a more refined model is needed.
