The F-15 Eagle is a supersonic fighter jet developed by McDonnell Douglas (now part of Boeing) for the United States Air Force. It first flew in 1972 and officially entered service in 1976. The F-15 was designed as an air superiority fighter, meaning its primary mission is to gain and maintain control of the skies by defeating enemy aircraft. It can reach speeds of over Mach 2.5 (around 3,000 km/h) and operate at high altitudes with excellent stability. One of the key strengths of the F-15 is its combination of speed, maneuverability, and advanced radar systems. It is equipped with a variety of weapons, including air-to-air missiles such as AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-120 AMRAAM, as well as an internal M61 Vulcan cannon. Several upgraded variants are still in service today, including the F-15E Strike Eagle, which adds ground-attack capabilities to its air combat role.
