Phone Holder with Sliding Arms This mechanism was designed and rendered using Fusion360. I chose to design this mechanism because as a child, i remember how interesting i found it when my parents bought this type of holder, me being used to the old ones, that had to be tightened by hand. The way this mechanism works is the weight of the phone pushes down the bottom arm, which in turn rotates two gears, which pull in the side arms, tightening the hold on the device. I designed some joints between the arms in order to have a ball-like movement. In order to restrict them, the screws that keep them together should be tightened. The main components of the design are the holder body, the arms that hold the phone(bottom, left, right), the arms that support the holder(arm1, arm2), the ball mechanisms which interconnect and the gears.
