For years distracted driving has taken the lives of thousands. Looking away from the road for just 5 seconds could cause a fatal accident. The Phone Sleeve is designed to minimize the amount of time a driver looks away from the road while navigating. Rather than looking down and picking up their phone the driver can glance to the side of the steering wheel and check directions while keeping both hands on the wheel. The Phone Sleeve features 4 contact points that keep the phone secure as well as leave enough space that make features like the controls of the phone and the charging and audio ports. Universality and cost savings were greatly considered in this design. The idea of the clip on the back of the Phone Sleeve is to easily attach to the vents in virtually any vehicle. FDM 3D printing using PLA plastics will be utilized to help minimize cost because of how effective they are. FDM 3D printing allows the design to be simplified reducing the amount of material required. PLA plastic is a good material to use in this design due to its low price and physical properties. The low cost and ease of the Phone Sleeve will help to cut down on the amount of time the drivers eyes are off the road. From Grand Haven High School taught by Jeremy Case.
