This planetary gearbox project was recently designed by me as part of a larger project. The gears are designed with a herringbone profile, which shows better stress distribution compared to spur and helical gears. In addition, this gearbox also demonstrates efficient performance with very low backlash. This gearbox is designed with a 1:4 gear ratio. Notably, the gear ratio can be upgraded by adding more stages. The components were manufactured using 3D printing with PETG plastic. However, after a period of operation, PETG showed signs of wear and thermal shrinkage. You may consider using special plastic reinforced with carbon fiber for better performance.
