Plastic Barbed Y Fitting, 19.5 mm These can be used with silicone tubing for hydroponics. I'm using the maximum diameter of the taper on these fittings to name them accordingly. This diameter is critical for providing a leak free connection with the corresponding tube size. Typically black tubing is used to transport liquid nutrient solution because it prevents entry of UV light inside the tubing and thus prevents algae from forming inside the tubing. I will be using blue tubing with the idea that it will not become as hot as black tubing in terms of absorbing sunlight and thus will not heat up the plants as much when nutrient solution is provided to them.
