Press for Drill and Soldering Iron to Install Heat-Set Inserts — Proof of Concept · 模型 60466
I designed this tool while working on another project. Having very shaky hands, I needed a steady way to install heat-set inserts into 3D-printed parts. This required a custom soldering iron tip to heat the inserts and press them into the plastic — and shaping that tip meant sanding it with a drill. The press solves both problems: it holds a drill for shaping the tip, and with an additional support, it holds the soldering iron for pressing the inserts. It was built entirely from scrap material, hence the rough finish. Drawer slides serve as the linear guides, offcuts from a 35mm DIN rail form the structure, and the hardware is a mix of imperial and metric screws — simply whatever was available.
