Do you drink protein powder? If you have, chances are you have experienced drinking chunky, clumpy protein bits that don’t quite break down when shaking the drink in a typical protein shaker. We interviewed over 80 protein drinkers, and over 80% said they have this problem. With that information in mind, we decided to innovate the protein shaker. We designed an insert that more effectively and efficiently blends the protein powder in the shaker and eliminates the chunks from your drink. We also designed an aerated cap with a screen that blocks any remaining clumps from pouring out of the bottle. This aerated cap also allows for a smoother pour. Not to mention if the user is intending to drink fast and suck in, this added air flow allows the user to pull the drink into their mouth faster and finish chugging that drink of pre-workout, water, or protein during their workout much quicker than a traditional protein shaker. This product would be ideally be printed using Raptor Series PLA High Performance 3D filament True Black, which is FDA approved and dishwasher safe. It’s no wonder that it is on its way to becoming a $5.2 billion market by 2020. Additive manufacturing can increase the efficiency of how products are manufactured today for a plethora of reasons. To start, traditional manufacturing is known for using the “subtractive process”. For example, if you want to produce an aluminum boat part, a block is placed into a CAD system and the excess material is cut away to make the part, in the process leaving up to 70% of this block in scraps. 3D printing uses the “additive process” where companies are able to use close to the exact amount of material needed to produce a part, greatly reducing the material costs. Also, 3D printing now allows for rapid prototyping.
