Pyrolysis Unit for Activated Carbon Production · 模型 51751

作者:Ali Walid

The project focuses on designing an integrated pyrolysis system for converting wood into activated carbon, a valuable material used in environmental and industrial applications. One of the most critical features of the unit is the custom-designed mechanism that enables one reactor to switch between two operational modes: vertical position (Fixed Bed Reactor) for the pyrolysis phase and horizontal position (Rotary Bed Reactor) for the activation phase. 1. Pyrolysis Process: Wood is placed in a reactor, and nitrogen is injected to eliminate oxygen. Heating begins in a vertical position using an electric heater. Charcoal forms, along with gases like methane, CO₂, N₂, H₂, and CO. Gases pass through a cyclone separator to remove large particles. Smaller particles go to a gas treatment unit (condenser) to collect condensable gases; non-condensable gases are stored. 2. Activation Process: Charcoal is ground and reloaded into the reactor, now in a horizontal position. Nitrogen is injected and gradually raising the temperature, then, superheated steam is injected. The total activation takes 2.5 to 3 hours, with the reactor rotating 270° using a power transmission system. This transformation is essential, as it allows one reactor to perform two distinct processes. A SolidWorks animated video was created to demonstrate the full reactor transformation between pyrolysis and activation phases, and visualize how the mechanism works.
