A rack and pinion gear is a type of gear system that is used to convert rotary motion into linear motion. It is made up of two components: a pinion gear and a rack. The pinion gear is a small, round gear that meshes with the teeth of the rack. The rack is a long, flat bar with teeth that are cut into it. When the pinion gear rotates, it drives the rack. The rack then moves in a straight line, in the direction of the pinion gear's rotation. The amount of linear motion that the rack produces is determined by the number of teeth on the rack and the number of teeth on the pinion gear.
